Surrounded by the river “Mère”, behind its very conserved fortified ramparts , Vouvant was born from the legend of Melusine, ancestor of the Lusignan family who gave the village a castle in one night. From the edifice remains the the donjon, tower Melusine. The magnificent roman church dating from the XI century is an unmissable monument.

Many times awarded for its beauty, Vouvant is not only a character village but also one of France’s most beautiful villages, and also part of the flowered Towns & Villages.

The town centre, overhanging the river Mere is constructed around the Melusine Tower (XIII century) and the church (XI and XV century).
Vouvant has developed a large artist community with various exhibitions and craft shops. The village is recognized as “painters village” and attracts many art amateurs.
